Georgia Price - Sport Inspired by You

As part of our new Sport Inspired by You campaign we have taken real life stories from athletes of all abilities to inspire the next generation of athletes. Sport is a great way to improve yourself both physically and mentally as well as a great way to make new friends. Many do often wonder how others got started or can be overwhelmed at the beginning stages. So let these stories show you how anyone can get involved and just how fun and exhilarating sport can be.

  1. What got you interested in golf?

It was my dad that originally got me interested in golf when I was about 9. He played with his friends every Sunday morning, and they started to run a junior clinic at the same time, so I started going along with my dad’s friend’s kids, and I really loved it, even despite getting hit in the head by a golf club one morning! My family then moved out to Florida to live, so I didn’t play for a while, but picked it up again as part of an after school club, where we had the choice of various different sports and activities. I soon started taking private lessons with the pro who ran the school club and progressed from there! I played for my middle and high school teams, and then went on to play at university.

  1. Who has been you inspiration throughout your career?

I have always looked up to a lot of different players. I loved watching Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam when I was younger. But a few years ago I read Seve Ballesteros’s autobiography and that was very inspiring. I admire the way that he worked tirelessly and built his game from nothing, having had very little access to facilities and finances. He used what he had and he became one of the most imaginative players ever to have played. Personally, my mum and dad have been my biggest inspiration. They are the hardest working people I know and, through their work in particular, they have always strived to be better, and I’m so grateful to have had that attitude instilled in me from a young age. Through all of the things that life has thrown at them over the years, they have remained optimistic and found ways to make the best of every situation, and I admire them for that.

  1. Are there any short or long term goals you're working towards or have achieved recently?

I am currently in my first season as a professional, playing on the LET Access Series. My goal for this year is to finish within the top 50 of the Order of Merit, which will give me better starts for next year, and then at the end of the year go back to LET Tour school and have status on the main tour for 2020. Beside that, I think my goal is to really enjoy learning and navigating my way through my first year on the professional circuit. I am lucky enough to play a sport that I love for a living and I think that it can be easy to lose sight of why you love it sometimes, so to embrace all of the challenges and enjoy the journey is the most important thing.
